The Lac La Biche Museum invites residents and visitors to celebrate Alberta Culture Days, September 19–26, with a week of free workshops, exhibitions, food, art, and hands-on cultural activities.

The program begins on Saturday, September 19, with two free hands-on workshops.
At 10:00 AM, Irina Kalina will lead a Ukrainian Cloth Doll Workshop for participants ages six and up.

At 12:00 PM, Danielle Patenaude of Métis Matriarch Ltd. will lead a Ribbon Skirt Making Workshop for participants ages 16 and up.

Space for both workshops is limited, and pre-registration is required. The Ribbon Skirt Making Workshop is limited to one registration per participant.
Cultural Art Walk | September 22–26
From September 22 to 26, during regular museum hours, visitors can explore the museum’s Cultural Art Walk, which brings together three exhibitions that examine culture, creativity, and Alberta identity from very different perspectives.
See the Forest Differently features award-winning wildlife photography by Lac La Biche photographer Donna Feledichuk. At the heart of the exhibition is a simple idea: the forest is not just a landscape, but a community of lives, each with its own story. Her photographs invite visitors to slow down, look more closely, and notice the relationships and moments that are often hidden in plain sight.
Indigenous Footwear: Reflections of Culture in Wearable Art, curated by Jennifer Mueller, explores the diversity of Indigenous footwear from across Canada and the cultural knowledge reflected in its design. Through moccasins, boots, and kamiks, the exhibition shows how environment, available materials, regional traditions, and cultural exchange have influenced construction and decoration over time, from hide and fur to quillwork, embroidery, and beadwork.
The Cultural Art Walk will also feature artwork created by local children, giving young artists an opportunity to explore and share their own perspectives on culture, heritage, and the diversity of their community.
Main Celebration | September 26
Alberta Culture Days will culminate in a community celebration at the museum on Saturday, September 26.
The afternoon begins with Opening Ceremonies from 1:00 to 1:30 PM, featuring welcome remarks from special guests.
From 1:30 to 3:30 PM, visitors are invited to come hungry for the Cultural Food Potluck: A Taste of Lac La Biche. The potluck will bring together dishes representing cultures from across the Lac La Biche region, offering visitors a chance to taste foods they may not have tried before while learning more about the traditions and communities behind them. A diverse array of cuisines will be lovingly represented, including Indigenous, Ukrainian, Cameroonian, Norwegian, and many more.
From 2:30 to 4:00 PM, Cultural Arts & Crafts will offer another way to participate in the celebration. Visitors will be able to try hands-on activities connected to different cultural traditions, including beading, henna art, and other creative activities.
Rather than simply observing, visitors are encouraged to take part: make something, taste something, discover something new, and connect with the people and traditions represented throughout the week.
All Alberta Culture Days activities at the Lac La Biche Museum are free.
