Lac La Biche Explorers

Lac La Biche Explorers is a free, monthly, museum-based program that invites children, families, and curious learners of all ages to explore local history in fun and engaging ways. Each session features a new theme connected to historical heritage, culture, or traditional crafts. A free healthy snack is provided. Registration is requested.

  • January 24 – Tracks and Scat. Animals have invaded the museum! Join our guided discovery session and identify them like a true tracker.
  • February 21 – Window Decorating Craft Fun. Discover stained glass traditions with a painted window-look-alike project. ( 11 AM-4PM )
  • March 14 – All Things Yarn Workshop. View vintage crochet lace and enjoy a fun yarn-based craft session.
  • April 18 – All Things Yarn: Crafting Workshop Try simple yarn crafts inspired by traditional techniques.
  • May 16 – Birding 101 Walk Learn how to spot and identify local birds.
  • June 27 – Sew Your Pride – Make a rainbow pin using basic sewing skills.
  • July 11 – Cyanotypes – Sun printing art workshop.
  • August 15 – Handmade Ice Cream Workshop – Make ice cream using traditional methods.

How Things Were Program

How Things Were is a free, monthly, drop-in program held at the Stuart MacPherson Public Library that focuses on the practical side of the past. Through guided, hands-on sessions, participants explore the tools, skills, and customs that shaped everyday life in earlier times. A free healthy snack is provided.

  • January 16 – How They Mended – Bring your sewing pile and learn basic mending skills in this practical, hands-on workshop.
  • February 6 – How They Valentined – Drop in to create old-fashioned Valentine’s Day cards and learn about historical traditions of love and friendship.
  • March 6 – How They Baked – Discover historic baking techniques and churn your own butter in this hands-on heritage food class.
  • April 10How They Animated – Try simple early animation activities.
  • May 8 – How They Played – Play games from the past.

  • June 5How They Danced – Learn simple dances from earlier times.
