Lac La Biche Explorers

The Lac La Biche Explorers program is a monthly program designed to provide a fun hands-on learning experience rooted in history. It is designed for children of all ages (or the young at heart) so bring the whole family! Topics will vary throughout the year.

  • Cost: FREE
  • Time: Saturdays from 3-4pm at the Lac La Biche Museum

Schedule

  • May 3: Birding 101 – Celebrate spring migration and build a bird feeder from recycled materials.
    Ages 8+
  • June 7: Celebrating Indigenous History MonthDetails to be announced.
    All Ages
  • July 5: Summer ID Workshop featuring iNaturalist – Learn how to identify plants, animals, and more with the iNaturalist app.
    Ages 8+
  • August 9: Gamify Museum Exhibits – Design and test your own interactive exhibits to explore museum creativity.
    Ages 10+
  • September 13: Celebrating Alberta Culture DaysDetails to be announced.
    All Ages
  • October 25: Carving Traditions – Learn about the history of carving gourds and vegetables. Create your own Jack-O-Lantern or Turnip carving.
    Ages 6+
  • November 8: Photography – Explore vintage cameras from our collection, improve your photography skills, and learn how museums document their exhibits.
    Ages 10+
  • December 13: Light the Night – Discover historic methods of lighting and create your own candle shade to take home.
    Ages 6+

A partner program to the Lac La Biche Explorers program, How Things Were offers a hands-on look at historical traditions, crafts, and daily life.

  • Time: Saturdays from 4-6 pm at the Stuart MacPherson Public Library
