Indigenous Peoples Day

National Indigenous Peoples Day

Today on National Indigenous Peoples Day, and every day, we stand with those who walked this land long before us and continue to walk it today.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT: The Lac La Biche Museum acknowledges Treaty 6 territory – the ancestral and traditional territory of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, and Nakota Sioux as well as the Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We recognize the land as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.

Our museum is dedicated to facilitating the display of our community’s rich and important Indigenous cultures. Exhibits featuring content about Indigenous peoples:

  • Expressions of Beading
  • Indigenous Storytelling
  • Multiculturalism in Lac La Biche
  • The Fur Trade

We also have a selection of books, all of which include Indigenous history during the Fur Trade era as well as the early years of Lac La Biche.
